► Hantavirus: Missouri health care providers should contact their LPHA or DHSS Bureau of Communicable Disease Control and Prevention at 573-751-6113 or 800-392-0272 (24/7) to report a patient suspected of having hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) caused by Andes virus or for questions regarding this CDC Health Advisory. Talking points for LPHA use can be found on the Communications page.
► WIC Special Infant Formula Transition NEW!
Beginning July 1, Missouri WIC will begin referring infants and children who require special formulas to MO HealthNet when they are eligible. See details in the June 2 Communication Bulletin.
► Core Funding FY27: Funding distributed through the Participation Agreement for State Investment in Public Health Services (Core) for FY27 will remain consistent with funding distributed in FY26. Total distribution through the Core agreement for FY27 will be $13,586,508, with $5,686,508 being General Revenue funding and $7,900,000 being CHIP H.S.I. funding. A spreadsheet that outlines the funding each LPHA will receive through Core for FY27 will be posted on the LPHA Hub in early June 2026. The process for Core invoicing will change July 1 with the state fiscal year. Review this instructional video or this PowerPoint presentation for a walkthrough of the new, simple process.
► LPHA Forum: A new Forum page has been added to the Hub to facilitate document sharing, idea sharing, and peer-to-peer discussions among LPHAs. You will need to create a userID using your email address and a password the first time you try to join a discussion. After that you can join any of the discussion groups and create a new group based on topics that are important to you.
► Mental Wellbeing in the Workplace: Brown University offers Missouri LPHAs free Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction courses through PHIG funding. All classes are held virtually through Zoom. ► SB 914 was signed into law and updates state sewage regulations. It takes effect Aug 28, 2026. Changes include:

Elimination of percolation tests from the rules, replacing them with soil morphology evaluations.

Removal of the $90 permit fee cap, enabling the DHSS to set more current, cost-based permit fees.
BEHS will provide additional updates to LPHAs via GovDelivery in the coming months as changes are made to comply with the law.

This program aims to strengthen the public health workforce by creating a pipeline program that supports students’ interest in public health and provides a pathway to permanent positions. DHSS has partnered with Missouri State University's MPH program to match interested students from across Missouri with DHSS and LPHA internships.
Students receive a stipend of $20 per hour up to $6,400 for completing an internship of up to 320 hours depending on academic program requirements and agency projects. Students and recent graduates in nursing, environmental health, undergraduate or graduate public health programs, and other disciplines interested in pursuing a public health career are encouraged to apply by the following deadlines:
